When a muscle is injured it goes into spasm to protect itself from tearing. The muscle then forms scar tissue to avoid further damage. Scar tissue decreases flexibility and makes muscles prone to injury. Muscle spasm causes decreased circulation, deprives muscle of oxygen and nutrients while promoting waste build up in the muscle. This waste build up will cause muscle pain, spasm, burning and trigger point formation.
